Along the quiet corridors of Zhongshan Building is a cafe with a rather unusual name- Piu Piu Piu. Resembling the sound of retro galactic laser guns, the building where the coffee shop is established in is a restored 1950s building which is now repurposed as a creative hub.
There are 3 entrances into the building and the only way to identify your way up is the smell of coffee. But in case you are having a bad nose block, the first door beside the art space is the door you’re looking for. The space here isn’t the roomiest but if you’re lucky enough to be able to sit at one of the 3 tables inside, consider yourself winning in life. Otherwise, the corridor seatings outside is as great and you can lepak one corner with your mates.
Piu Piu Piu cafe is a rather laid back place to chill and hang out on an afternoon or somewhere to go for coffee and cakes. With a variety of cakes displayed at the bar, we did had a hard time choosing and finally we settled for the Burnt Cheese Cake (RM13).
“If you liked it then you should put a cheese on it”. Truth be told, we go crazy over everything with cheese. Cheese drinks, melted cheese tarts, cheese everything and this burnt cheese cake is our chosen one in Piu Piu Piu.
The slightly hardened texture of burnt cheese and soft insides screams perfect. Does taste a little like custard pudding but this cheese cake is in a league of its own. Think of it as a cheese cake & custard pudding mash up.
On a hot afternoon, a cold long black (RM8) is apt. We love how it’s less intense, making it a perfect pair with cakes and a book in hand. Pleasantly less acidic we’d say. Not feeling coffee? They serve lemon sours (preserved lemon drink) and if you’re up for something with alcohol, request for a dash of shochu. Beer on a blazing hot weather isn’t a bad idea too!
One more thing that makes Piu Piu Piu stand out from other coffee shops is the Gachapon machine! Here you won’t get any Bandai figurines but 50¢ scores you a short story! Try it out and perhaps you can share it with us below.
